The Ghana Police Service has arrested five suspects in connection with the death of Austin Tengbe, a Liberian at Lashibi in Accra.
The five suspects have been remanded into police custody while investigations continue.
The 24-year-old was fatally lynched at Sakumono Lashibi, Accra on February 7, 2026.
Suspects Vincent Adjikah, Francis Amuzu and William Anderson were arrested at the scene the same day by the Sakumono District Police.
Addressing journalists on Monday, March 9, 2026, the Director-General at the Criminal Investigations Department, Lydia Yaa Donkor said suspect Enoch Mensah, had earlier evaded arrest and gone into hiding following the incident but later resurfaced and was arrested and remanded on March 4, 2026.
Suspect Nana Agyenim Boateng whose alleged instruction is believed to have set the chain of events in motion was subsequently arrested and remanded into custody.
The case was formally referred to the homicide unit on March 2, 2026 together with the machete exhibit.
On March 5, 2026, a post mortem examination was conducted following formal identification of the body by the deceased brother in-law.
A full autopsy report will be issued by the pathologist after a toxicology report is submitted.
All five suspects have been remanded into police custody ad scheduled to reappear before the Baatsona District court on March 16, 2026.
Police say investigation is ongoing and further development will be communicated in due course.
The Ghana Police Service condemns in the strongest terms the act of mob justice that claimed the life of Austin Tengbe. The Service wishes to remind the public that taking the law into one’s own hands will not be tolerated.
