Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Prof Naana Ama Browne Klutse has said that her outfit remains resolute despite the November 6, 2025 unprovoked attack on her team including five journalists, during anti galamsey operation at Dadwene, in the Ashanti region.
She said this during a courtesy visit to Management of Akoma FM, a subsidiary of Media General, on January 16.
Her visit to the Kumasi based radio station forms part of her routine checkups on journalists who were on the EPA team on the day of the unfortunate incident.
Akoma FM and Tv3 Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Ibrahim Abubakar was part of the team.
According to the EPA Boss, she is unfazed by the threats her team continue to face in the fight against illegal mining.
“On the unfortunate event that happened, we are here to continuously present our support and that this should not be an incident that will deter you from working with us or dampening your spirit in working with us. We are in this together in this fight against illegal mining and the whole environmental stewardship that the EPA is mandated for.” Prof Browne stated.
She has also hinted of an insurance package for Ibrahim Abubakar
“We are preparing an insurance package for Ibrahim,” she announced.
Station Manager of Akoma FM, Ransford Osei Asare re-echoed Media General’s commitment to supporting government end illegal mining.
“We are partners in this whole galamsey fight. Media General for instance we launched a fight against galamsey and it is one of the things that we have always been advocating for, hoping that we come to a logical conclusion.”
On November 6, an operation led by the Executive Director of the EPA Professor Naana Ama Browne Klutse to close down some warehouses alleged to be shielding the fabrication of illegal mining equipment turned sour when some thugs chased out the team from Dadwene.

This led to a fatal accident at Afari in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Eight people including 5 journalists sustained serious injuries, including TV3’s Ashanti regional correspondent, Ibrahim Abubakar
A week after the incident, a joint police/military team swooped Dadwene to arrest perpetrators of the November 6 attack.
Since the incident, leadership of the EPA says they have been in regular contact with the journalists involved.
The EPA presented some item to Ibrahim Abubakar for his upkeep.
Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, Kofi Domfe commended the EPA for the gesture.
“For us at the Ghana Journalists Association we believe this is something that all institutions should and take a cue from,” he advised.
