Ghana and the European Union (EU) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening security cooperation following a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Defence.
EU Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Rune Skinnebech, together with Head of Division for the European Peace Facility, Ms. Dorota Dlouchy Suliga, and Policy Officer Maria Castaldi, met with Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, to discuss enhanced collaboration in addressing emerging security challenges.
In a statement on his Facebook page, on Wednesday, July 8,2026, the Deputy Minister highlighted the evolving security threats facing Ghana and outlined efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces, particularly the Ghana Navy, including counter-terrorism measures and the deployment of operational platforms to protect critical national infrastructure and strategic assets.

He also expressed appreciation for the EU’s continued partnership to Ghana’s defence sector.
Speaking on behalf of the European Union, Ms Suliga reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to working with Ghana as an equal partner to address shared security concerns.
She announced that the EU has plans to provide funding under the European Peace Facility (EPF) to support strengthening Ghana’s defence capabilities in the coming year, reinforcing the shared commitment to peace, stability, and regional security.
