A Yutong passenger bus was completely destroyed by fire in the early hours of Wednesday, July 8 after it caught fire on the Mankessim–Accra Highway, the Ghana National Fire Service has confirmed.
According to the GNFS, a distress call was received at 4:34 a.m. reporting the incident, prompting the immediate dispatch of a firefighting crew.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at 4:40 a.m. to find the bus fully engulfed in flames after passengers and passers-by made unsuccessful attempts to extinguish the fire.
The Officer-in-Charge directed the crew to deploy firefighting hoses, and the blaze was eventually brought under control and completely extinguished by 7:12 a.m.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

The fire completely destroyed the bus, passengers’ personal belongings and approximately 20 crates of drinks being transported in the vehicle. However, firefighters managed to salvage some luggage and other personal effects.
After ensuring the scene was safe, the crew returned to the station at 7:18 a.m.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
