Parliament has eulogised the late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Naser Toure Mahama, in a tribute read by Parliament for him at his funeral on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the National Mosque at Kawukudi, Accra.

In the tribute read on behalf of Parliament by the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, he said the death of Mr. Toure Mahama has come as a great loss to the House, considering his contributions during the time he served his constituents.

According to him, the late MP’s absence is a big blow, not only to Parliament, but the entire democratic sphere of the state. “In Hon. Naser Toure Mahama, Ghana has lost a rising star of its parliamentary democracy—a man whose promise was cut short but whose example shines on,” he stated.

He described how the late MP had, “over these 13 years, transitioned from a freshman legislator to a seasoned veteran whose presence was a source of stability and wisdom.”

Mr. Mahama served on the Committee on Energy, Committee on Roads and Transportation, House Committee and the Committee on Private Members Bills and Private Members Motions, and as Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Mines and Energy.

His experience in the oil and energy sector, as CEO of Aminaser Oil Co. Ltd and as one of the longest serving members of the Committee made him a vital voice in petroleum regulation and licensing discussions.

The tribute also described the late Naser Toure as a man of “Humility, Honesty, Punctuality, and Supportiveness.”

TRIBUTE TO THE LATE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR AYAWASO EAST CONSTITUENCY, HON. NASER TOURE MAHAMA BY THE PARLIAMENT OF GHANA

Today, the Parliament of Ghana, in solemn reverence and profound gratitude pays tribute to a cherished colleague, a dedicated public servant, and a true gentleman of the House, the late Hon. Naser Toure Mahama. His sudden departure has left a void in our hearts and the Chamber of Parliament will reverberate with the absence of his calm dignity and profound humility.

The Parliament of Ghana records with deep appreciation that the Hon. Naser Toure Mahama first entered Parliament on 7th January, 2013 as a Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East Constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He won the Ayawaso East seat four consecutive times; that is in the 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024 parliamentary elections. He successfully served three consecutive terms in Parliament, spanning from the 6th, 7th, and 8th Parliaments. He commenced his 4th term on 7th January, 2025 when unfortunately, he had to return to his Maker on 4th January, 2026.

Hon. Naser Toure Mahama was a mainstay of the House, representing the vibrant and diverse constituency of Ayawaso East. Over these 13 years, he transitioned from a freshman legislator to a seasoned veteran whose presence was a source of stability and wisdom.

Parliamentary work is won or lost in the “engine rooms”—the Committees. Hon. Naser Toure was a diligent “Committee man.” He served with distinction on several committees, most notably: Committee on Energy, Committee on Roads and Transportation, House Committee and the Committee on Private Members Bills and Private Members Motions.

Hon. Naser was the Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Mines and Energy. His experience in the oil and energy sector, as CEO of Aminaser Oil Co. Ltd and as one of the longest serving members of the Committee made him a vital voice in petroleum regulation and licensing discussions.

He was known for his meticulous preparation during committee meetings. He did not just attend; he was active at committee meetings. His contributions often centred on value-for-money audits and ensuring that government contracts served the best interests of the taxpayer. His contributions in committee meetings were marked by thorough preparation, insightful analysis, and a focus on practical, evidence-based solutions. He listened more than he spoke, but when he did speak, his colleagues listened.

During plenary sessions, Hon. Naser used the parliamentary tool of Questions to advocate for infrastructure and health improvements in the Ayawaso East constituency. In 2015, he questioned the Minister for Works and Housing on the measures taken to complete the concrete lining of the main drainage system that runs through Nima and Mamobi to prevent flooding during the rainy season. Also, in July 2019, he followed up on the status of the “Ayawaso East Drainage Project” specifically requesting a timeline for the dredging and reconstruction of the secondary drains connecting to the Odaw River. In November 2017, he asked the Minister for Health when the Nima Government Clinic would be upgraded to a full District Hospital status to alleviate the pressure on the 37 Military Hospital and Ridge Hospital (Greater Accra Regional Hospital). And in March 2021 he tabled a question regarding the government’s “Agenda 111” project, specifically asking for the designated site and commencement date for the Ayawaso East District Hospital.

On other parliamentary plenary businesses, Hon. Naser was a voice of reason and precision. Indeed, just a month ago, exactly on 9th December, 2025 he moved a Motion requesting the House to approve the Annual Estimates for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition. He was soft spoken and brief in his debates to Motions and contributions to Statements. He focused on issues that affected his beloved Ayawaso East Constituency. On some occasions he also championed issues relating to youth empowerment, the “Zongo” communities and the marginalised in society.

Hon. Naser was an active member of the Muslim Caucus of Parliament. He attended its meetings regularly and made immense contributions aimed at enhancing the objectives of the Caucus. He was a voice of moderation and wisdom, fostering dialogue and understanding both within the Caucus and in its interactions with the broader House and the nation. At the Caucus, he demonstrated a leadership trait of one of quiet counsel and sincere fellowship.

Hon. Naser Toure in four words would be described as a man of: Humility, Honesty, Punctuality, and Supportiveness. He was often one of the first Hon. Members in the Chamber. He was approachable to everyone; his colleague Members of Parliament, officers of Parliament, visitors and of course his constituents. He was a mentor to many young MPs, offering quiet advice behind the scenes and never seeking the limelight for his acts of kindness. He was also a generous giver.

In Hon. Naser Toure Mahama, Ghana has lost a rising star of its parliamentary democracy—a man whose promise was cut short but whose example shines on. He demonstrated that effective politics is not about the volume of one’s voice but the quality of one’s character and the depth of one’s commitment.

The Parliament of Ghana extends its deepest condolences to his beloved family, the people of the Constituency, and the entire nation. Hon. Naser Toure Mahama has finished his course. He has kept the faith. The Hansard will forever capture his words, but our hearts will forever capture his essence.

May his soul find perfect peace in the bosom of the Almighty Allah.

Fare thee well, Hon. Colleague. May Allah grant you Al-Jannah Firdaus.
