President Akufo-Addo has said he is leaving Ghana in a state better than what he inherited from his predecessor, dissimilar to a counter assertion being made by people he describes as “propagandists”.

He says the country is not bankrupt comparing the current gross international reserves with what he inherited from the previous administration.

Delivering his final State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 03, 2025, the President averred that the economic indices available show that he has managed the economy better than he inherited, adding that Ghana is currently on the projection of the pre-covid era.

“Mr. Speaker, the country is not broke as some propagandists want us to believe. A gross international reserves of almost US$8 billion. This is more than the US$6.2 billion of gross international reserves my administration inherited in 2017.

“Mr. Speaker, Economic growth has also returned to the pre-covid projection with impressive growth rate, rising from 4.8% in the first quarter of 2024 to 7% in the second quarter, 7.2% in the third quarter. It is projected that this year’s growth rate will be 6.3% significantly higher than the 3.4% my administration inherited in 2017,” he added.

The President’s final address is being delivered prior to the dissolution of the 8th Parliament before the 9th Parliament will be inaugurated on January 07, 2025.

This, as contained in Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, grants the President the opportunity to let Ghanaians know the state in which the country is, before exiting office as President.
