The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has criticised the government for presenting a budget which he says did not provide any hope for Ghanaians.

He says whilst Ghanaians expected that the budget would abolish some taxes to bring relief to Ghanaians, the Minister failed to address any of them, saying the hardship on the citizens remain unchanged.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament after the Finance Minister’s presentation of the Mid-Year Budget review, Dr. Ato Forson indicated that the government failed to abolish “E-levy, Covid-19 levy, tariff on domestic electricity, ‘borla’ levy” among others describing the Finance Minister’s refusal to abolish any of the taxes as a “missed opportunity.”

He continued that “they have already missed the IMF programme target” saying “this is a missed opportunity.”

According to the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Member of Parliament, “Ghana is on auto-pilot” adding that the government has accumulated an arrears of GHC4.5billion already.

Dr. Forson also jabbed the government and the Majority caucus that “they are bereft of new ideas. Mr. Speaker, they sang ‘abamu awie‘,” indicating that the gesture means “they are on their way to opposition.”

Meanwhile, prior to the statement, Yapei Kusawgu Member of Parliament, John Abdulai Jinapor, noted that he didn’t expect any relief for Ghanaians from the budget.
