Infrastructure deficit coupled with delay in completing a one storey assembly block for the North East Gonja District has compelled about 70 per cent out of a total staff strength of 112 to work under trees and sometimes from home.

The current structure that the assembly operates from only has three offices as work on a new assembly block which was supposed to be completed in 2020 has also stalled.

District Chief Executive for North East Gonja Musah Timdawu told OnuaOnline the delay is affecting administrative work as staff are unable to operate effectively.

“The situation is bad. They, the officers sometimes don’t come to work and are forced to work from home. Even those who come will have to sit under trees because they don’t have offices to operate from,” he revealed.

He indicated, work on an assembly block for the district is moving at a slow pace.

“The contract was awarded in 2019 and work was supposed to be completed by December 2020 but here we are the project is at a standstill”

“We wrote to the Savannah Regional Cordinating Council asking for termination of the contract and the local government ministry has since terminated the contract and waiting to reaward,” he added.

Member of Parliament for Salaga North, Alhassan Iddi Abdallah, expressed worry over the slow pace of projects in the constituency.

“Every other project is moving at a slow pace and it’s worrying because we are an infant District and need development to spring up with speed yet they delay their work.

“They the contractors should be interested in completing projects and not counting their projects,” he cried.

Community Centre project

The Member of Parliament through the Ghana Gas Company cut sod for the construction of a 1 million Cedi Community Centre project.

The 130-capacity project is expected to be completed within six months.

Board member of Ghana Gas, Nana Owusu Ansah Ababio was optimistic the project will benefit the people.

He admonished the people of the Salaga’s South Constituency to maintain their member of Parliament and the New Patriotic Party come 2024 to influence more development.

“Your MP is hardworking and has the constituency at heart. You can only reward him for this project by voting massively for him in 2024,” he campaigned.

The North East Gonja District was inaugurated in February 2019 by President Akufo-Addo.
