President John Dramani Mahama has celebrated all Ghanaians on the occasion of the 69th Independence Day.

In his address to the nation on Friday, March 6, President Mahama said that independence granted Ghanaians freedom, but freedom demands responsibility.

“We need to re-establish responsibility in our national life and how we manage natural resources,” he said.

President Mahama also used the occasion to announce that the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank is in its final stages.

He made the point that the bank, when fully established, will ensure access to finance by women-led businesses.

“We are in the final stages of setting up the Women’s Development Bank,” he said.

He stated that the bank will ensure women-led businesses access to financing and mentorship.

President Mahama further announced that he has signed the 24 Hour Economy Authority Bill into law.

He says a 24 Hour Economy will create jobs and also boost the economy.

“I have assented to the 24 Hour Economy bill, and it has now become law… This historic reform will boost productivity,” he said

This year’s anniversary is themed ‘Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope’.

Members of the diplomatic corps, the clergy, traditional leaders and other dignitaries participated in the event.

Regarding the Women’s Development Bank, President Mahama announced that the government is in the final stage of its creation.
