John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that the call for a new government to reset Ghana’s economy has been evident throughout his interaction with Ghanaians over the past few months.

He says the mismanagement of the economy by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration has overwhelmed Ghanaians who are calling for a competent administration to alleviate their suffering.

Whilst speaking to a charged crowd at Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East district of the Central region Friday, November 08, 2024, the former President  and flag bearer of the opposition NDC criticised the government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) which he says has made life unbearable for many.

“Throughout my interactions across the country, the people have been emphatic in their demand for urgent economic reform and responsible governance to alleviate their suffering,” he posted on his Facebook Friday after his interaction with the residents of Kasoa.

He cited the recent passing of the founder and Chief Executive of Kama Group of Companies, Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, whom he says faced many struggles as a result of the DDEP before his passing.

According to Mahama, there are many Ghanaians who are facing the very challenges he says could be responsible for the passing of Dr. Agyekum Addo, due to the DDEP introduced by Akufo-Addo’s cousin, Ken Ofori-Atta, to wipe Ghanaians of their assets.

This morning, while addressing a passionate crowd, including chiefs and our Muslim Umar, in Kasoa, I shared with them one of the reasons I am calling for Change in our country’s leadership in the December elections.

This is because the NPP administration of Akufo-Addo and Bawumia has pushed too many Ghanaians further into poverty due to reckless borrowing and economic mismanagement.

Just look at the heartbreaking story of the late Dr Michael Agyekum Addo, CEO of the Kama Group of Companies. His financial struggles, exacerbated by this government’s debt exchange programme, which he publicly complained about, may have led to the loss of not just his life savings but, ultimately, his life.

This is not just one man’s story; it reflects the daily realities many Ghanaians face under this administration. As a people, we cannot sit idle while our brothers and sisters suffer.

During my presidency, we built strong foundations, from interchanges to schools and hospitals. Kasoa was transformed, and we saw genuine progress.

The NDC is ready to reset our economy with a renewed focus on agriculture, manufacturing, and a vibrant creative sector, as contained in our 2024 Resetting Ghana manifesto. I will implement the 24-hour economy to bolster job creation opportunities and guarantee sustainable growth. These will work together to support an economic resurgence in our country.

Throughout my interactions across the country, the people have been emphatic in their demand for urgent economic reform and responsible governance to alleviate their suffering.
