It was not an objective probably set but a race to relish as Ghana’s men’s 4X100m relay team finished 5th in the final of that event on Saturday night.
The team’s time of 38.07 seconds on the tracks in Oregon, USA shattered the National Record set by the same team at the Tokyo Olympic Games last year.
The record was 38.08.
It was a time that broke a 24-year-old record of 38.12 set by Abu Duah, Eric Nkansah, Aziz Zakari and Emmanuel Tuffour at the World Championships in Athens, Greece on August 9, 1997.
Saturday night’s finish by anchor leg Joseph Paul Amoah, however, could not compare to the one he made in the semi-final on Friday.
National 100m record holder Benjamin Azamati, however, made the fastest run among the quartet.
But the fastest overall was the Canadian team as they pipped poor-baton-changing USA in the final 100m to the Gold medal.
Former World champion Andre de Grasse stormed to victory in a world leading time of 37.48.
USA could only settle for a disappointing second place in 37.55 after a fraction of delay in the baton change between Elijah Hall and Marvin Bracy.
It was the team’s season best, nonetheless, and the performance followed an astonishing run to Gold by their women.
Great Britain & NI also recorded an SB with a time of 37.83 to grab the Bronze medal from the highly-fancied Jamaicans, who also had an SB with 38.06.
Following 5th-placed Ghana were South Africa and Brazil in 6th and 7th respectively.
