Former President John Dramani Mahama has said his administration had stabilized the Ghanaian economy with policies and programmes at the time President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was taking over from him in 2017.

He said Mr Akufo-Addo only needed to continue from where he left the economy but has squandered all the gains.

Speaking at the Chatham House on Friday, January 27, 2023, John Mahama said “when President Akufo-Addo came we had achieved economic stability. All they needed was to continue from there but unfortunately, this is where they have led us to.”

Mr Mahama further indicated the mistake of his administration was failing to drum home the achievements they chalked.

He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumed that Ghanaians would see the projects he had taken.

“We were not forceful in letting the people see what we had done, we assumed they would see. We did quite a lot,” he said.

He added that “maybe next time if we get the chance, our leaders should make it a point to let the people know what we have done.”

His address was on the theme “Africa’s Strategic Priorities & Global Role”.
