The Kumasi Traditional Council has asked management of Oyerepa FM to resume on air after asking them to halt operations Thursday, August 25, 2022.

During a visit to Manhyia by the management, accompanied by the former Chairman of the National Peace Council, Prof. Emmanuel Asante, and Asokore Mamponghene, as well as leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association, the Council told the management to go and resume operations but operate with caution.

“…Go and resume operations. But make sure that what happened does not occur anymore. You should ensure that persons you bring on your shows speak well and when they are treading on dangerous grounds, you make sure to direct them from making certain comments,” acting president of the KTC who doubles as Bantamahene, Baffuor Amankwatia VI, had advised.

The Kumasi-based radio station had been bared from operation after it allowed politician cum business mogul, Akwasi Addai Odike, to spew words regarded unsavory by the Traditional authority in the Ashanti Kingdom, particularly the KTC.

The man had said the chiefs have allowed galamsey activities to go on without being perturbed about the destruction of natural resources, for which he was going to stage a demonstration against.

Following the remarks, Mr. Odike was invited by the KTC but refused to attend, and subsequently incurred the wrath of the chiefs who slaughtered a sheep to banish him from the land.

When the management visited Thursday to apologise, the Council deemed their approach unworthy, asking them to return with a proper apology afterwards.

Meanwhile, the KTC had asked the management to halt operations if they wanted to exhibit remorsefulness for their deed.
