The government of President Akufo-Addo has invested heavily in the security agencies of Ghana to protect the country, former Deputy Managing Director of the National Investment Bank (NIB) who is also a member of the government communications team, Alfred Thompson, has said.
Mr Thompson indicated that a lot of resources had been given to the security agencies to enable them to carry out their work effectively.
Contributing to a discussion on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, March 2 in relation to the State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered on Tuesday, February 27, he said “The government has done a lot in for security security service.”
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the address said that given the violent extremism currently going on in parts of West Africa, government can no longer take the territorial integrity of the country for granted.
To that end, he said that the government took deliberate planning to keep the country safe and secure.
He says Ghana has not been affected by the extremism that is occurring in neighboring countries because of the proper planning.
The armed forces and all the security agencies have been resourced with their welfare prioritized, he said during the delivery of the State of the Nation address on Tuesday February 27.
“Our nation is “safe and secure.” he said.
The police, he added, are much better equipped than they have ever been.
Citing the extremism occurring in other parts of West Africa, he said “we can no longer take the territorial integrity of the country for granted.”
