President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing abandoned public projects.
He cited the ongoing four-storey central laboratory complex at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Navrongo as a key example.
Inspecting the project on Thursday, August 13, 2026, as part of his #ResettingGhana Tour of the Upper East Region, President Mahama said taxpayers’ investments in stalled projects must be put to productive use.
The laboratory project, which commenced in 2016 before construction stalled, is expected to be completed and handed over in 2027. The facility will provide modern infrastructure for teaching, research, innovation and practical training.
President Mahama also directed the Roads and Highways Ministry to include UTAS’s request for about five kilometres of internal roads in its project inventory, describing the request as achievable.
He further reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening STEM education and expressed support for UTAS’s plans to establish a medical school to help expand Ghana’s capacity to train doctors.
