The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described government’s renewed commitment to end illegal mining as a mere rhetoric and scam.

Communication Director for NDC Sammy Gyamfi addressing the media in Accra said government has not exhibited any genuine commitment to end the menace stressing that the renewed vows by President Akufo-Addo remains a mirage and a lost battle.

He indicated government’s score on the fight against illegal mining is only unmitigated disaster.

He has stressed that President Akufo-Addo is complicit and a direct beneficiary of the trade of the illegal menace hence his failure to apprehend and prosecute NPP key members who are involved in illegal mining.

Meanwhile, he has revealed there are some persons in the NPP the NDC’s next government will investigate and prosecute.

They are Bernard Antwi Bosiako a.k.a. Wontumi; Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Ekow Ewusi; 1st Vice Chairman of the NPP in the Central Region and Charles Bissiw, also a leading member of the New Patriotic Party.

The NDC say these persons are all actively engaged in illegal mining.

Speaking with the media, he disclosed there is enough evidence to prosecute and jail the trio for their involvement in illegal mining which is destroying forest reserves, farmlands and water bodies.

Sammy Gyamfi who was addressing the media in Accra Thursday, October 6, 2022, insisted it will be the saddest day in his life if NDC in power fails to prosecute chairman Wontumi and co to deter others from illegal mining.

“The saddest day in my life will be the day NDC fails to prosecute chairman Wontumi, Ekow Awusi and Charles Bissiw for engaging in mining without permit.

“We have enough visual evidence to prosecute these people and all the key members of the NPP who are actively engaged in the illegal menace,” he reiterated.
