Government Communications Minister and Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that distribution of relief items to victims of the June 29, 2026, flood victims has begun.
According to the Minister, Government on Wednesday, July 1, successfully dispatched emergency relief items to the La Dade Kotopon Municipality, Ayawaso Central, and Korle Klottey Municipality, all in the Greater Accra Metro.
The Minister, at a press conference on Thursday, July 2, revealed that a second major wave of relief distributions was rolled out to seven critical districts: Krowor Municipality, Ga East (Dome-Kwabenya), Shai Osudoku, Ada East, Ablekuma North, Ada West, and Okaikwei North.
“To our brothers and sisters in the Central, Volta, Western, Ashanti, Western North, and Eastern Regions: please be assured that you have not been forgotten,” he said.
Mr Ofosu said the impact of the floods spans seven regions, with the Greater Accra, Volta, and Central Regions being the hardest hit. He assured the public that the government’s response had been swift, coordinated, and continuous.
He said under the direct instruction of the President, the National Disaster Management Organization, through the Relief and Donations Committee, had commenced the aggressive mobilisation and distribution of essential relief items, including food, clean drinking water, temporary shelter materials, blankets, and medical supplies.
Mr Ofosu said to ensure orderly and rapid deployment, the distribution to affected districts was being executed in structured phases.
He said even as the government focuses on the high-density displacements in Greater Accra, logistics columns are currently being organised to dispatch massive relief packages to the Central Region, Volta Region, and all other affected districts across the country.
The Minister added that NADMO regional coordinators were on the ground, and additional supplies would arrive in the affected communities starting from Friday.
“As we navigate the aftermath of this disaster, we urge all citizens to remain vigilant: adhere to safety warnings and report emergencies,” he said.
The Minister said the government would not rest until every displaced family was safely housed, every affected district restored, and communities rebuilt to be stronger and more resilient against future weather anomalies.
He thanked the nation’s emergency service workers, the military, the police, health workers, and volunteer groups who had worked tirelessly around the clock.
He reiterated that they would keep the public updated with briefings as the situation develops.
