Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced the successful evacuation of Ghanaians who requested assistance to be evacuated from Israel, following recent security concerns in the region.

In a statement, Mr. Ablakwa confirmed that all Ghanaians who requested assistance from the government have been safely transported back home.

“Our evacuation operation in Israel has been a success. We have safely evacuated all Ghanaians who expressed the desire to be assisted by the Government of Ghana,” he stated.

The evacuation exercise also included some diplomatic staff from Ghana’s embassy in Tel Aviv, although a limited number of essential personnel have been retained to continue providing consular services.

He expressed appreciation to both Israel and Egypt for their cooperation in facilitating the operation.

Mr. Ablakwa further extended a warm welcome to the evacuees who arrived in Ghana earlier on Thursday, March 19 assuring them of government support.

He emphasised that the administration of President John Dramani Mahama remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of Ghanaian citizens abroad and will continue evacuation efforts where necessary.

The successful operation comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with governments across the world taking steps to protect their nationals in affected areas.
