Government’s promise to build stadiums in the six new regions will come to light in 2026 when three of the projects start.
President John Dramani Mahama, as part of his 2024 campaign promise, had promised to build stadia in the six as well as other regions without modern stadiums.
On Thursday, November 13, while presenting the 2026 budget, Minister of Finance Dr Cassiel Ato Forson mentioned that three out of eight regions without such facilities will see construction.
“Construction of modern stadia will begin in three of the eight regions without such facilities,” he said on the floor of Parliament.
He also announced that the Ministry will develop Bills for the National Sports College and Sports University, and organise inter-school, district, and regional sports competitions nationwide as part of programmes in the sports sector.
He was happy with the qualification of the Black Stars to next year’s FIFA World Cup, announcing that GH¢150 million will allocated to the team for expenditure during participation.
