Government has released GH¢195.5 million to cater to the feeding of senior high school students for June 2025 and also to clear outstanding arrears owed to Primetime Limited, the organisers of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

The NSMQ arrears are from 2023 to 2025, according to the sector Minister, Haruna Iddrisu. The Minister says GH¢186 million of the fund will go towards the feeding fee for June 2025, while GH¢9.5 million is for settling the arrears owed to Primetime

Mr. Iddrisu made the disclosure at the 63rd annual Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) in Sunyani on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

“I personally edited and supervised the letter, which was to go through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for the release of the money,” he noted.

Since his assumption of office as Minister, he said the GETFund and Ghana Education Service (GES) had released close to GH¢1 billion to support SHS feeding.

He added that the government had expanded the frontiers of free compulsory universal basic education to include SHS. “That places an onerous burden on me,” he said.

The release of the funds come on the back of a complaint by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) saying there was no funds to participate in this year’s quiz.

In a letter responding to an invitation by the organisers, Primetime Ghana Limited, CHASS said it was ready to participate in the quiz once the government made the funds available.

The release of the funds brings relief to CHASS to embark on this year’s competition as scheduled.
