Asante Kotoko have jumped to fourth place in the Ghana Premier League after a 2-0 victory over champions Bibiani Goldstars SC in their Matchday 2 outstanding game.

Two goals in each half of the encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium ensured that the Porcupine Warriors increased their point tally to 7.

The goals were scored by Peter Amidu Acquah and Albert Amoah, who was stretchered off moments after the game, raising injury concerns for his side. Already, strike partner Kwame Poku is out injured.

It was a cagey encounter for the two sides as they were playing only their third game in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League after their respective campaigns on the continent.

Despite mixed outcomes from the campaigns, one for which the Miners sacked their coach Stephen Frimpong Manso after the CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg against Algerian giants JS Kabylie, the two sides returned strong to the domestic league.

While Goldstars clinched a 1-0 way win over Swedru All Blacks, Asante Kotoko played a goalless draw against leaders Heart of Lions.

Therefore, it was all-play-all in Wednesday’s outstanding game.

But the Reds scooped all the maximum points.

They both have one more outstanding game each to play with Asante Kotoko, who progressed to the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup, set to miss more games as a result of the continental assignment.

The 2-0 victory over Goldstars takes them to fourth just behind archrivals Hearts of Oak, who are third with 8 points.

Kotoko’s next game will be away to Nations FC while Goldstars trek to Tema to play Vision FC.
