Asante Kotoko suffered their first defeat in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League on Wednesday.

An injury-time strike by Prince Tweneboah was the killer blow as Basake Holy Stars, who had won only once this season going into the outstanding game, ran away with a 2-1 victory.

The Porcupine Warriors went into the rescheduled Matchday 2 fixture after a goalless draw against FC Samartex on Sunday.

They have been charged for a social media comment made after that game.

Before the game at the AAK II Arena in Ampain, Head Coach Abdul-Karim Zito had complained about the club’s schedules, particularly as regards the outstanding matches.

Wednesday’s game was the last of three outstanding matches scheduled for Kotoko in November to make up for their 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

All the action came in the second half after a goalless first half.

Richmond Somiah scored after just three minutes of restart only for Kwame Poku to equalise in less than five minutes.

But Basake Holy Stars’ leading scorer last season left it late as he struck in injury time to give his side their second win this season.

They still languish in the relegation zone despite the three points.

The win will, however, be a booster going into their next game against Nations FC.

Having cleared all their outstanding games, Asante Kotoko will return to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to welcome Medeama SC in their Matchday 12 clash.
