The West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) will convene its 8th High-Level Policy Dialogue and 23rd General Assembly in Accra from September 15 to 19, 2026, as the organisation marks its 15th anniversary.
The gathering, hosted by the Ghana Revenue Authority, will bring together Finance Ministers, heads of tax administrations, policymakers, development partners, private-sector representatives and international tax experts.
Per the theme, “Building Stronger Tax Administrations for Revenue Mobilisation and Sustainable Development,” the dialogue will focus on practical measures to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation and build resilient tax administrations across West Africa.
Priority areas for discussion will include digital transformation, taxpayer compliance, environmental fiscal policy, innovation, regional cooperation and emerging international tax reforms.
WATAF says the discussions come at a critical time as governments across the region seek sustainable ways to finance development amid economic uncertainty, rapid digitalisation and growing climate-financing demands.
The Forum, established in 2011, has trained more than 5,000 tax officials and senior tax executives over the past 15 years, while expanding partnerships with regional and international institutions.
The 23rd General Assembly will also review WATAF’s progress and strategic priorities, while a Development Partners and Donors Roundtable will seek to deepen technical cooperation in support of tax administration reforms across the region.
WATAF Executive Secretary, Jules Tapsoba, said the anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the Forum’s achievements and chart a stronger course for the future of tax administration in West Africa.
