The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has applauded the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, for insisting government will not dismiss any nurse or midwife recruited after the elections.
Perpetual Ofori Ampofo, who spoke with OnuaOnline in reaction to the Minister’s stance indicated that the Association’s intended strike has been suspended.
Addressing the African Nurses and Midwives maiden conference in Accra, Mr. Akandoh noted that the government has no intentions of dismissing nurses and midwives.
“The Ministry of Health including the Ghana Health Service and CHAG have not terminated the employment of any health worker. We are committed to building and sustaining health work force,” he stated.
The President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Perpetual Ofori Ampofo, expressed her excitement with the government’s decision not to dismiss any health worker.
“I think as an Honorable Minister, he took the floor of Parliament and made certain statements, and today he has taken opportunity with our African nurses and midwives conference to reiterate what he said in Parliament so why not? He is going to stick by it.
“And we have also assured him that as nurses and midwives in Ghana, we are ready to support the Ministry of Health and its agencies to ensure that the health agenda we have as a country, we are able to achieve it,” she stated.
