The Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) has announced resumption of spillage at the Weija Dam as water levels continue to rise following heavy rains upstream.
The Company says residents living downstream must evacuate and remain alert.
The level at the dam has risen to 45.2 feet as of Monday, September 7, 2026, approaching the 46-foot threshold, following sustained rainfall in the catchment area of the River Densu and its tributaries.
GWL, in a statement issued on Monday, September 7 said it will resume spillage from Wednesday, September 9, as a precautionary measure to safeguard the dam.
The Company urged residents to follow official evacuation directives and avoid activities that could expose them to danger.
It also called on the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the District Assembly, traditional authorities, assembly members, resident associations and other stakeholders to take precautionary measures and prepare for evacuation.
Communities likely to be affected included Tetegu, Oblogo, Pambros Salt, Lower McCarthy Hill, Lower Weija, Bojo Beach, Ada Kopey and surrounding areas.
GWL said it is closely monitoring the situation and would continue to provide updates, stressing that the safety of residents remained its priority.
