Hearts of Oak have become the first side to fall foul of the Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols adopted by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the resumption of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League after a month’s break occasioned by the stabbing to death of an Asante Kotoko fan.

The Phobians were found to have breached Article 8(e) of the recently adopted regulation and Article 34(6)(d) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations, 2019.

Hearts of Oak were said to have allowed unaccredited persons, particularly their supporters, to enter the Safe Zone of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium to celebrate their 2-0 win over Young Apostles.

A Michael Awuah Mensah goal in the first half and an own goal in the second half ensured that Aboubakar Ouattara’s side scooped all the three points to go temporarily top of the table.

The apparent permission of the supporters into the Safe Zone has been adjudged as a misconduct and said to bring the game into disrepute.

“They have until Tuesday, March 11, 2025, to respond to the charges,” the statement from the GFA indicated on Sunday, March 9.
