Original Manufacturing and Embossment Company Ltd, the company contracted to implement the new number plate system, is now a party to the suit against the DVLA.

The High Court granted the company’s application to become a defendant in the case brought by the Vehicle Embossment Association against the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority.

At the last adjourned date, the court noted that a ruling will be given on the injunction application filed by the members of the Vehicle Embossment Association against the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, seeking to restrain them from implementing the new number plate system.

In court on Friday, January 23, however, lawyers of the plaintiffs notified the court that they had been served a joinder application by Original Manufacturing and Embossment Company Ltd with the return date of February 24.

Marcillinus Bia, holding the brief for Martin Kpebu, indicated that though they were not opposed to the application, they would want an abridgement of time for the application to be heard.

Lawyers for the DVLA, led by Sibiru Edmund Karbiri, also noted that they were not opposed to the application.

The court then granted the application for the abridgement of time and ordered that the applicant move their motion.

Counsel for the Original Manufacturing and Embossment Company Ltd moved the application to join the suit, praying the court to join the instant suit after noting that the application had been filed on January 21.

Presiding judge Isaac Addo granted the application after lawyers of the other parties did not oppose. The court additionally ordered lawyers of the plaintiffs to amend their writ and serve the processes on the defendants.

The case has been adjourned to February 6.
