The Koforidua High Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the self-acclaimed winner of the Akwatia parliamentary seat in the Eastern region.
Mr. Kumi has been convicted of contempt of court after he failed to attend to court.
His conviction follows an interim injunction placed on him on January 07 which he disobeyed. The said injunction prohibited him from being sworn-in as the Member of Parliament-elect for the Akwatia constituency due to the ongoing legal tussle on the election.
Kumi was in Parliament on January 07, 2025 for the swearing-in ceremony against the court’s orders.
The Judge, Justice Senyo Amedahe held that the convict, throughout the hearing of the contempt case, failed to appear in court in person.
Meanwhile, the Minority has issued a letter to the court indicating Mr. Kumi has not been able to attend court proceedings because of his busy parliamentary schedule. But the judge rejected the letter.
According to the judge, accepting the letter from the minority caucus would suggest he has gone against his own ruling.
