The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atebubu – Amantin, Sanja Nanja, has claimed that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has destroyed his political career by an attempt to betray President Akufo-Addo over Ghana’s current economic situation.

He has slammed the Vice President for daring to distance himself from the cause of the current economic difficulties although he is the second-in-command in the current government with oversight responsibility of government’s economic policies and their implementation.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, addressing the nation on Wednesday, February 7, in Accra, said he has learnt lessons from the seven years of the Akufo-Addo government and revealed his visions for the country.

He called on Ghanaians to vote for him as the next president to give him the mandate to implement policies that will grow Ghana’s economy.

“As Vice-President, I am like a driver’s mate. But if, by the Grace of God, you make me President, I will be in the driver’s seat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities.”

Meanwhile, Sanja Nanja, speaking on Onua FM Etifi Nsem show on Saturday February 24, insisted that Dr. Bawumia substantial role in the Akufo-Addo administration contributed to the economic challenges the nation is facing, considering his role as the head of the Economic Management Team.

“If Ghanaians are to vote based on issues then, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has dumped his campaign totally because of the lecture he led at the UPSA trying to stay clean from the economic woes”.

“How can he exonerate himself from the economic management team for the mess created, given his position as the sitting Vice President,” he quizzed.

The Atebubu – Amantin lawmaker emphasized that it is impossible to separate Bawumia from the government and even if indeed he was sidelined, and his contributions were kicked-out at cabinet meetings as purported, he should have resigned.

He condemned the circumstances that led to the passage of E-Levy in parliament and the fact that now some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party are arguing that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia opposed E-levy.
