Last week, the NPP organized the signing of a “PEACE PACT”, on the way to the “top-down” flagbearer election meant to unite the party ahead of the 2028 elections.
In attendance were members of the NATIONAL PEACE COUNCIL, the IGP, the National Executive Council of the Party and former President NADAA.
Now, I want to be constructive so, I wouldn’t use the word, “fake” to describe what happened but it was tempting. The PEACE COUNCIL that wasn’t disturbed by the deaths of fellow Ghanaians in the 2020 and 2024 elections and the gouging of someone’s eye in the NPP primary leading to 2024 were there to underline the importance of PEACE? Anokwa!!.
The National Executives who have allowed this primary to be a “free-for-all” regarding insults and selective reprimands was there as a neutral arbiter? The Elections Committee for this election that is supposed to Kickstart our unity has removed the names of Cynthia Morrison and over 200 of her followers from the voters register?
Who else have they removed? And the General Secretary cited Article 3 and the crime of going Independent? This Election Committee is led by Honourable Osei-Wusu who went Independent in 2008 and was allowed back without sanctions–anaa?
And he is for the expulsion of others? So, in 2028, are we going to ask for the votes of Ms. Morrison and her supporters– in addition to the other 1.2 million who, according to Boakye-Agyarko, “resigned in their hearts” and voted for JM?
And there was NADAA!! He said, “The NPP is bigger than any individual “!! and “Unity is a strategic imperative “!! Really, Mr. President? When did you realize this? For nearly sixteen years, you managed the NPP like a subsidiary of the “Kyebi Mafia” and now, nobody is bigger that the party? Unity?
You disregarded mandates won fairly by Afoko et al and made, “Mentumi ne no ny3 adwuma” your mantle and now you are preaching unity? You have done more to divide the NPP than Rawlings and now you are preaching unity?
The reason the NPP is in crisis, Mr. President, is mainly because of your mismanagement of the party and the government. An apology from you would have been a great start to your speech.
I don’t know when the NPP would realize that NADAA is a liability and the sooner he takes a backseat, the easier our task of rebuilding will be. Listening to him felt like listening to Hitler deliver a Passover speech or Stalin extolling the virtues of individual liberties.
The ink was hardly dry on the peace pact before the aspirants– who are all good men– to varying extents– caught in a flawed process started attacking one another.
These aspirants have been quieter on national issues than Fiifi Kwetey and General Mosquito and they want to be President? The NPP found itself in a hole after the 2024 elections. Instead of finding its way out of the hole, it has been digging. The way out of our predicament, whether we like it or not, will go through accountability, inclusiveness, democratization and demonitization.
These are the processes that would make the NPP, once again the party of the patriotic masses, led by men of achievement and substance, like Frimpong Boateng, Nyaho Tamakloe and Kwame Pianim.
The Americans in their revolution looked up to the leadership of men like Washington, Jefferson and Hamilton, not the hoi-polloi!
The Russians didn’t listen to nobodies– they waited for Lenin! The UGCC didn’t pick any street urchin to be General Secretary–they sent for Nkrumah!
Long live Ghana. May the NPP find its way back.
