Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a Statesman and founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed that he personally called Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, to warn him not to allow President Akufo-Addo to talk him and his colleagues out of their demand for Ken Ofori-Atta’s dismissal.
However, the former Ghana’s Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro says his warning came to pass within hours after his call with the former Asante Akyem North Member of Parliament.
Speaking with JB, host of Onua TV’s Maakye, in his house on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe recounted how over 80 NPP Members of Parliament, led by Appiah-Kubi, demanded the sacking of the Finance Minister during Akufo-Addo’s tenure.
He was reacting to the recent bribery allegations levelled against the Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei, following a memo detailing a her rejection of a GHC70,000.00 bribe from the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
“A similar situation occurred when a number of our party members in Parliament, during the era of Akufo-Addo came out, they were over 80, the only person I recognise among them is [Eugene Boakye] Antwi, Antwi I know very well,” he said.
According to him, after seeing the group on television, he made efforts to reach its leader, Appiah-Kubi, whom he eventually warned to be careful over Akufo-Addo.
“But when they presented themselves, I got to know that their leader was called Appiah-Kubi. I quickly looked for his number and called him.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said he commended Appiah-Kubi and his colleagues for taking a bold decision that aligned with his own principles. “I said ‘Gentleman, you guys have done something I like a lot. This is the way I operate. But be careful you’re not talked out of it by Akufo-Addo’,” he recounted.
He, however, noted that what he cautioned the MPs about happened merely hours after his engagement with the former legislator. “And it happened within hours,” he said, referring to how Akufo-Addo talked the MPs out of their demand to oust Ofori-Atta.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe insisted the group was right to have demanded Ofori-Atta’s dismissal, describing the former minister as the first Finance Minister in Ghana’s history to run away after his stewardship.
“They were asking for the dismissal of the Finance Minister who has run away from the country now. Where is he? If he hasn’t committed any offence, he should be here. First in the history of Ghana for a former Finance Minister to take to his heels,” he stressed.
He expressed disappointment in Ofori-Atta’s conduct, referencing his father as someone of a noble character.
“His father I know very well, he was my senior. I don’t think Jones [Ofori-Atta] will do this but he has run away,” he added.
