The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has flagged 20 mobile loan applications for operating in the country without licence or authorisation.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, September 9, 2026, the central bank said the activities of the 20 apps violate customer data privacy, consumer protection and regulatory standards.
The BoG has warned the public not to do business with them and has also cautioned banks, Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions (SDIs) and Payment Service Providers (PSPs) not to facilitate or process transactions for the unlicensed lenders.
According to the Bank, the move is part of efforts to sanitise Ghana’s digital credit space and protect borrowers from unlicensed operators.
The BoG said their operations contravene the Directive for Digital Credit Service Providers in Ghana issued in September 2025, and urged the public to verify the regulatory status of any digital lender before borrowing.
