John Dramani Mahama, flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said his aim after handing over to Akufo-Addo in 2016 was to retire and become a Statesman.
But he had to return to active politics looking at how abysmal the performance of this government is, and the debt it is bequeathing the State, just eight years after taking over.
According to Mahama, it will be improper on his part to sit aloof and look at things go wayward whilst he wields the wherewithal to turn things around.
Speaking at a mini rally at Kisseman in the Okaikoi North constituency of the Greater Accra region Sunday, September 15, 2024, John Mahama assured that he was going to work hard to turn things around.
“I was looking forward to retire after I handed over to Akufo Addo and become a Statesman. But I will be a selfish person if I see the extent to which they have destroyed this country when I have the experience, the knowledge, the integrity to turn things around.
“And then I will sit at home and say I will not offer myself to use that experience to turn things around for my children, Sharaf, Shahid or Farida and the youth of this country. We are going to work together with you to turn things around,” he stated.
He asked the young people to keep hope alive and trust the NDC to come and deliver the nation from the mess the NPP government has put it into.
“I’ll ask our young people to continue to keep hope alive because the NDC has the men and women. I know that things are going to be hard. I know that the extent to which they are destroying our economy and the debt that they have put on this country is going to be a job for us.
