Ghanaian rapper Edem has defended his reply to a young man who begged for GH¢2,000 to offset his rent fees during the artiste’s live session on social media.

Few days ago, Edem was in the news for telling a Ghanaian young man to “go back to his hometown if he cannot afford rent in Accra”. This was after the man requested for money to pay for rent in the comment section during the rapper’s live video session.

His statement has sparked backlash from some Ghanaians who are not enthused by Edem’s response to the man.

Speaking in an interview on 3FM Drive, November 27 2024, Edem described the young man’s action as “rude” noting that the man had earlier described him as a stingy person during his live session before he made that plea.

He stated that “in this time and age I don’t think I would tolerate any human being who is rude.”

Edem hit back at critics who say he is stingy for not helping the young man. He emphasized that he’s been involved in a lot of benevolent activities including taking the initiative to enroll a three-year old girl in school three weeks ago.

“It’s intriguing because three weeks ago, I was on TikTok live and there was a lady called Vannessa with a three-year-old daughter who doesn’t have the means to go to school and we paid her fees and everything and put her in school,” Edem disclosed.

According to Edem, some persons specifically target artiste and send them messages begging for money.

He recounted a time where he was with 4X4 Coded where they both received message at the same time from persons demanding money from them.
