The Institute of Energy Security (IES) says it does not see the need for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to continuously stay in office as Energy Minister amid the intermittent power outages otherwise called ‘dumsor‘ which is on the rise.

The IES says the dumsor crisis demands swift intervention and a leader who understands the issue to give it the needed attention, Nana Amoasi VII, the Executive Director of IES, has maintained.

With his perceived inaction over the crisis, the IES has asked that Dr. Opoku Prempeh be sacked to give him concentration on any agenda he is bidding for, rather than leaving such a critical space in his care to be playing with.

He bemoaned the Minister’s response to Ghanaians to provide their own timetable when he was approached with the matter, indicating the Manhyia South lawmaker’s nonchalant posture on the situation is an exhibition of how bereft he is on the reality of the matter.

“Where we have gotten to, there is no circuit and so what is the use of the minister in that space? He must be relieved, probably to concentrate on any other agenda he is bidding for. He must be relieved of his post. It is becoming too much. Is it not insulting with the statement that he made? Total disrespect to consumers. Are we asking for too much?

“For God’s sake, I am a prepaid consumer. I have paid for that power that you need to supply me. In fact, you chose to put a meter in my house at a fee, that is also a contract in a form, and he chose to take my money in advance.

“If I am not going to get the power, then just out of respect, at least tell me when I can have the power. But don’t look into my face and say, I should go and produce my own timetable,” he fumed on Accra-based Citi FM Monday, April 22, 2024.
