Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said those who “pretend to be peace-loving” but condone “wrongdoing” are the ones breeding conflict in the country.
He says every Ghanaian who wants peace should condemn the actions of the Electoral Commission (EC) which according to the NDC has the potency to create mayhem in the country.
Speaking to party faithful at the Nkrumah interchange, popularly known as ‘Circle’, in Accra, Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Asiedu Nketia noted that the action of the NDC is a move to save the country from chaos.
The remarks came at the commencement of the NDC’s nationwide demonstration against the Electoral Commission, demanding a forensic audit for the voters’ register.
The party charged its supporters across all the 16 regions to march towards the regional offices of the Commission where a petition was presented for the audit of the roll which the party says hasĀ been bloated.
During the procession, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said “we are marching to save our country. It is now or never. There is no sitting on the side. You are either part of the problem or you are part of the solution.”
“Let every youth, unemployed youth in this country gather. And let us fight to save our country. Let us fight to save the lives of numerous Ghanaians, who cannot walk, who cannot walk.”
He added that the NDC “want to send a message to those who pretend to be peace-loving. If you pretend to be peace-loving and you are condoning wrongdoing, you are actually the one who is brooding conflict in this country.
“Those who want peace must prepare and fight against the element that will bring disruption in the country. That is why we are ready to fight against the element that will disturb our democracy,” the NDC National Chairman stated.
