Professor Ransford Edward Van Gyampo, the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), has assured the public that he will continually help shape Ghana’s political landscape despite his new role.

Prof. Gyampo, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, was just appointed to act as CEO of the GSA by President John Dramani Mahama.

Prior to his appointment, the political scientist has been critical about successive administrations, criticising respective regimes on decisions that have not served the interest of the nation.

Following his appointment, many have been questioning whether he will be able to remain critical of the regime to point out any wrongs that may come out of the current administration.

In a post made hours after his appointment on Facebook, he said “there can be no neutrality when one is tasked with helping to right what is wrong in the service of the nation.”

The Professor also expressed gratitude to the President for the appointment and assured the public that he will remain the very person they have known over the years.

“Thank you, Prez Mahama, and humbled by the many congratulatory texts. I’ll serve Ghana,” he stated, adding that he would “remain the Yaw Gyampo that you all know.”

His appointment, however, has been commended by many who have lauded President Mahama for not limiting his governance to people who are only affiliated to his political party. They believe this is a step towards the attempt to deal with the winner-takes-all system.
