The NDC’s Hamza Sayibu Suhuyini has shared what he thinks could be the possible reason the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, is refusing to return to Ghana to account for his deeds.

Mr. Ofori-Atta has been out of the country since January 2, 2025, following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) electoral defeat in the December 2024 elections.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has since named him as a complicit in some corruption and corruption-related issues, and declared him a fugitive from justice and placed him on Interpol Red Alert Notice.

But in a recent update, the OSP says it has now charged Mr. Ofori-Atta along with seven others, paving the way for it to secure a court order and attach it to some documents to extradite the man from the U.S. to Ghana.

But speaking on Accra-based JoyNews on Thursday, November 20, 2025, Suhuyini, who is also a legal practitioner, questioned why the OSP had delayed all this while, without doing what was required of it to get the man back into the country.

“So if you knew that this was meant to be the process, why did you have to take the entire nation for a ride?” he quizzed.

He said he’s convinced Ofori-Atta will face scrutiny on multiple issues beyond the Ghana Revenue Authority’s contract with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).

“I am convinced, without any shred of doubt, that Ken Ofori-Atta has serious questions to answer, not just in relation to the SML, [but] in relation to many other issues, including the ambulance saga and the payments made to the company associated with Nana Addo’s daughter. These are questions he ought to answer,” he stated.

“Especially when it comes to how he handled the economy of this country for more than seven good years and I consider his decision to abscond from this country under questionable circumstances unethical,” he added.
