A communications team member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hamza Sayibu Suhuyini, has launched a scathing attack on the Special Prosecutor, William Kissi Agyebeng.
He has criticised Agyebeng for what he describes as taking the nation on a ride, regarding the extradition of former Finance Minister, Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori Atta, to Ghana.
His criticism follows the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) announcement that it is yet to begin some processes to secure a court order to extradite Mr. Ofori-Atta from the United States to Ghana.
The OSP has announced that it is working to secure a court order to extradite the former Finance Minister from the US, after filing charges against him and seven others.
However, Suhuyini is questi oning why Mr. Kissi Agyebeng did not follow proper procedure from the start, asking why they are only now pursuing this process.
Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews on Thursday, November 20, 2025, Suhuyini noted that the OSP said “now that they have filed the charges, they are now going to request through the court processes for such an order to be given, based on which the order will be added to a docket and now sent for consideration for his possible extradition.”
He questioned why the OSP failed to do what he knew should have been done all along. “So if you knew that this was meant to be the process, why did you have to take the entire nation for a ride?”
Meanwhile, the OSP says Ken Ofori-Atta and seven others will be arraigned on Monday, November 24, 2025, to face 78 counts of corruption and corruption-related offences.
In a social media update on Thursday, November 20, 2025, the OSP stated that “the prosecution will seek the necessary court orders to serve the charge sheets on fugitives who are currently outside the jurisdiction.”
This follows the official charging of the Finance Minister, Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), and six former high-ranking officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Ministry of Finance.
The accused persons include Ernest Darko Akore, aged 67, former Chef de Cabinet to the Minister of Finance; Emmanuel Kofi Nti (66), former Commissioner-General of GRA; and Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah (64), also a former Commissioner-General of GRA.
The others are Isaac Crentsil (63) and Kwadwo Damoah (65), both former Commissioners of the Customs Division of GRA; Evans Adusei (62), CEO and beneficial owner of SML; and the company itself, Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd, formerly Strategic Mobilisation Enhancement Ltd.
The charges are linked to a sophisticated and long-running alleged scheme described by the prosecution as a “criminal enterprise” that operated between 2017 and 2024.
The alleged conspiracy involved collusion between senior public officials and SML to illegally award contracts and syphon over GHC1.4 billion from the state through fraudulent procurement processes and payments for services that were never rendered.
Hamza Suhuyini fears OSP’s failure in SML-GRA case could tie A-G’s hands
