The Greater Accra Regional Hospital (GARH), popularly known as Ridge Hospital, has handed over a specialised Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) for temporary use.
ECMO is an advanced life-support technology used to provide temporary support to patients whose heart and/or lungs are severely compromised.
The availability of the machine at UGMC is expected to strengthen the facility’s capacity to manage critically ill patients requiring this specialised form of care.
The handover forms part of an arrangement between the two institutions to ensure that the specialised equipment is put to optimal use for the benefit of patients.
UGMC will use the machine until such time that GARH requires it, after which it will be returned to the Hospital.
The initiative highlights the importance of collaboration, resource optimisation and partnership among health institutions in strengthening Ghana’s capacity to provide specialised and critical care.
Authorities of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital say it remains committed to partnerships that promote the efficient use of healthcare resources and contribute to improved patient outcomes and saving lives.
