The presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has rejected the ‘all politicians are the same’ assertion saying he cannot be likened to John Mahama.
He says both himself and the flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are completely different having compared their records.
According to Bawumia, although he has only been a Vice President unlike Mahama who has served as both a Vice and a President before, their records are there for Ghanaians to make comparison.
Dr. Bawumia, who was urging Ghanaian youth to vote for him on December 07 during a “Bawumia for Jobs” encounter with the youth Sunday, November 03, 2024, admonished the youth to dispel the assertion that all politicians are the same, and that their vote will not make any difference.
He recounted how John Mahama presided over the “Unemployed Graduates Association” of Ghana in 2016 when Ghana had discovered oil few years earlier. Bawumia says it was at the time the nation had recorded its lowest growth rate within that generation.
He urged the Ghanaian youth to give him the opportunity to serve them to see what he can also offer as President, comparing his track record as Vice President where John Mahama comes no near.
“In 2016, a few years after we became an oil producing country, Ghana’s economy, to the shock of the world, suffered its lowest growth rate for more than a generation.
“The situation was so bad for young people that a new group was formed with impressive membership nationwide. The name of that group was “Unemployed Graduates Association”. Coincidentally, the President then is the same person who will be my opponent on Saturday, December 7th.
“I know that some of you may not be too eager to vote. I do not blame you. If you have bought into the view that all politicians are the same, and that your vote won’t make any difference. That is not so. I can tell you that your vote makes a big difference. I will tell you why we are all not the same and cannot be the same.
“I am not John Mahama. He is a former President and a former Vice president. I am a Vice president who has never been president before who is asking you for the opportunity to lead and show what I can do if offered this opportunity this December,” he urged.
