Johnson Asiedu Nketia of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the election of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as flag bearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a good news for them.
He says the Vice President’s records are a proven disgrace in his economic management with evidence of his works showing “he is not an Economic Messiah” as espoused.
According to Mr. Asiedu Nketia, the NPP settled on Dr. Bawumia despite his poor works because there is no proper alternative in the NPP to be chosen.
Speaking with Captain Smart on Maakye on Onua TV/FM Monday, November 6, 2023, he likened Dr. Bawumia’s leadership to the proverbial one-eyed man in the blind kingdom.
“…Yet the NPP decided to choose him because in the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is made king that’s why it has happened like that,” he indicated in Twi.
“So, we are very excited of his appointment as the flag bearer,” he added.
In a related development, Mr. Asiedu Nketia had said on TV3’s Hot Issues a day earlier, that the 2024 election was going to be a done deal for the NDC.
He says the very people who complained about the administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under John Dramani Mahama are the same persons lamenting today.
He said the abysmal performance of President Akufo-Addo has made Ghanaians appreciate the leadership of the former President whom the NDC is presenting for the 2024 general elections.
“They are saying that Nana Akufo-Addo’s performance is making John Mahama look like a saint,” he indicated.
Speaking further, Mr. Asiedu Nketia the Akufo-Addo government has presented Ghanaians with options and the better is to vote John Dramani Mahama as the next president of the Republic.
He added that many who criticised the NDC government years ago have now come to apologise to the NDC for chastising them.
“Those who are talking today are the same people who condemned John Dramani Mahama and over the past two years, people are coming out to apologise,” he said.
“People are coming out to say that they were misled into believing in certain things and that is a stronger vote for President John Dramani Mahama.”
The NDC flagbearer is set to face Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in a landmark elections in 2024, all other things being equal, after the latter was elected by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the weekend as its flag bearer.
He polled 61.43 per cent of the total valid votes cast to beat close contender Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and two others, former MPs, to win the presidential primaries.
In his victory speech, Dr Bawumia indicated that he has his own vision and priority and will take the concerns of Ghanaians very seriously.
He admitted that economic recovery is very much alive while GDP growth has also picked up.
