The Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Manish Gupta, has paid an official visit to the Western Region as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties and explore avenues for investment and development cooperation between India and Ghana.
The High Commissioner was warmly received in Sekondi by the Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi, Frederick F. Faidoo, and the Presidential Staffer and Political Coordinator for the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC), Mr. Charles Kojo Adu-Fordjour, who stood in for the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson.
Speaking during a courtesy meeting held at the Mayor’s office, H.E. Manish Gupta emphasized India’s growing interest in economic cooperation and strategic partnerships at the regional level in Ghana.

“India is keen on building stronger partnerships with local businesses, especially in regions like the Western Region th at are rich in natural resources and economic potential,” he said.
“Our country has a long history of supporting capacity-building programmes in technical and administrative fields. We look forward to enhancing this by offering more scholarship opportunities and technical exchanges.”

The discussions focused on potential collaborations between the Indian High Commission and the WRCC, particularly in areas such as agro-processing, mining, oil and gas, digital innovation, and youth development.
H.E. Gupta highlighted India’s areas of global competence, including pharmaceuticals and healthcare, digital technology, innovation, and education, noting these sectors as ripe for collaboration with the region.
“There are excellent opportunities for India to share expertise in key areas of development. Our institutions are ready to welcome more Ghanaian students, especially from the Western Region, to pursue higher education in fields aligned with your development priorities,” he added.

Welcoming the High Commissioner on behalf of the Regional Minister, the Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi, Frederick Faidoo, expressed optimism about the outcomes of the visit.
“This visit presents a unique opportunity for us to harness India’s expertise and resources in key areas that are critical to our local development agenda,” the Mayor stated.

“We are committed to working closely with the High Commission to translate today’s discussions into real benefits for the people of the Western Region.”
Mr. Charles Kojo Adu-Fordjour reiterated government’s commitment to promoting sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships.
“The Western Region plays a major role in Ghana’s economic output, and we believe there is more that can be achieved through partnerships like this,” he said.
“We will provide the High Commission with a detailed list of our development priorities and areas of potential investment.”
The visit marks a significant step in deepening bilateral relations at the sub-national level and opens new doors for *investment, educational exchange, and development cooperation between India and the Western Region of Ghana.
Stakeholders in the region expressed optimism that the engagement would lay the groundwork for practical initiatives in the near future.
