The 20.4 year-on-year inflation recorded in August 2024 shot up to 21.5 per cent in September same year, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has disclosed.
The GSS says the rise was caused by food inflation which surged from 19.1 per cent to 22.1 per cent recorded in August 2024.
Non-food inflation however, declined to 20.9 per cent from 21.5 per cent in August 2024.
Prior to the current figures, inflation had gone down for five consecutive months.
Also, inflation on locally produced items and imported items increased according to the report.
Inflation on imported items increased to 17.0 per cent from 16.1 per cent in August, whereas locally produced items recorded inflation of 23.4 per cent from 22.2 per cent in August 2024.
The report further discloses that restaurants and accommodation services recorded 27.9 per cent whereas Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics recorded 27.6 per cent.
Also, Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels were recorded at 26.4 per cent, Education services had 23.7 per cent Health was recorded at 22.3 per cent and Food and non-alcoholic beverages were also recorded at 22.1 per cent.
The items recorded higher inflation than the overall rate of inflation of 21.5 per cent for September 2024.
