The economic recovery must reflect in the lives of the people, or else it will not mean anything to them, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has said.

He makes the point that it is not enough to show numbers to make the point that the economy is doing well.

He stated emphatically that the cost of living is very high despite the good numbers being exhibited by the managers of the economy.

Government has been touting the recent appreciation of the cedi against major international currencies and the gradual improvement in economic conditions as a sign that the measures indicated yielding positive results.

But speaking exclusively on TV3 on Tuesday, May 12, he said, “It is not enough to show numbers. The Populace must also see it reflected in their daily lives. I’d disagree with what is being said because the cost of living is high.”

Afenyo-Markin also said that Ghanaians are beginning to realise that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) hoodwinked them with unrealistic promises during the 2024 general elections.

He made the point that the people are realising that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration did better for them.

He said “Ghanaians are beginning to realise that the NPP administration did better by putting in place certain social intervention programmes for their benefit.

“They’re beginning to realise that NDC made huge promises that indeed were very convenient for the campaign.”

The Effutu lawmaker further stated that the Mahama administration is not pursuing the needed reforms for Ghanaians.

“This government is not pursuing the appropriate and needed reforms that will ensure that the energy sector is stable.

“Government has not taken advantage to make the necessary investment in the agricultural sector to increase production.”
