The Member of Parliament for Jomoro and Deputy Transport Minister, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has reassured her constituents of the government’s commitment to fixing the deplorable road network in the area.
She has revealed that preparations are far advanced, and in the coming weeks, contractors will move to the site to commence construction.
The Minister gave this assurance while speaking at the 69th Independence Day celebration at Nawule School Park.
The atmosphere was electrifying, filled with more than just the rhythm of marching bands.
It was charged with a renewed sense of possibility as students from across the municipality marched in crisp uniforms.
Traditional leaders, including Awulae Kwasi Amachie III, Paramount Chief of the Western Nzema Traditional Area, joined gathered citizens in being swayed by the vibrant scenes of the p arade.
Madam Affo-Toffey took to the podium to deliver a message that moved beyond usual ceremonial platitudes.
Her address, themed “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” served as a strategic roadmap for the constituency’s future, centered on a breakthrough for one of the region’s most pressing challenges.
In a moment that drew a roar of approval, the MP provided a concrete update on the road project.
“I am very much aware of the state of our road from Sameye Barrier to Newtown,” she stated.
“I want to assure the good people of Jomoro that the road will be fixed very soon. The contractor is preparing to come to the site in a few weeks to commence work.”
This announcement marks a significant milestone in her tenure, signaling that the “Building Prosperity” theme is moving from a slogan to a tangible reality.
For years, residents have voiced frustrations over the deteriorating state of the vital artery stretching from Sameye Barrier to Newtown.
This road is more than just asphalt; it is the lifeline for the traders, farmers, and fisherfolk who power the local economy.
While the road project stole the headlines, the MP’s speech outlined a broader developmental philosophy.
She reminded traditional leaders that Jomoro’s wealth lies in its human capital, leveraging fertile lands and vibrant markets to transform the district into a regional economic hub.
She also appealed to the marching students to embrace discipline and innovation as the “bright future” of the nation.
The MP emphasized that restoring hope is not just about physical structures, but about integrity and unity.
She paid homage to the legacy of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, noting that the 1957 declaration of independence was a mandate for leaders to ensure every citizen lives in dignity.
”If we remain united, hardworking, and committed to the ideals of our independence heroes, there is no challenge we cannot overcome,” she told the assembly of Chiefs, Queen Mothers, and Security Services.
As the parade concluded, the takeaway for the people of Jomoro was clear: the era of broken roads and stalled progress is nearing its end.
