The Blue Water Guard, in collaboration with the police, has arrested six individuals for engaging in illegal mining activities, known as galamsey, in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.
The arrests were made during a special operation targeting communities along the Bia River.
The taskforce destroyed 14 changfang machines and other equipment used for illegal mining, which were mounted directly in the river, posing a threat to aquatic life and water quality.

One pumping machine was seized at Abron, where the six individuals were arrested while actively engaging in mining activities.
The suspects have been handed over to the police for processing and further investigation. Authorities have assured the public that those found culpable will face prosecution.
Many residents have welcomed the operation, expressing concern over the rapid destruction of the Bia River and calling for consistent enforcement to prevent illegal miners from returning.

Intensified Surveillance
The Blue Water Guard has pledged to sustain its efforts until the menace is completely curtailed, intensifying surveillance in the area. The six suspects are currently in custody, assisting investigators, while the seized equipment is being kept at the Juaboso District Police Command.
