The Juaboso Magistrate Court has remanded Evans Amoako, popularly known as Sasso, into police custody for brandishing a firearm in a viral video and issuing threats against security agencies.
The video, which circulated on social media on August 24, 2025, showed Amoako wielding a locally manufactured pistol loaded with live ammuniti on and warning security personnel not to approach their illegal mining site.
Arrest and Charges
Amoako was arrested on August 26, 2025, at Sefwi Metemano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region. He was charged with causing fear and panic among security agencies and possession of a firearm without lawful authority.
Court Proceedings
During the court proceedings, Amoako pleaded guilty to the charges, claiming he displayed the weapon “for play” and didn’t personally upload the video on TikTok. However, the prosecution opposed bail, citing concerns that Amoako might interfere with investigations.
Bail Application Declined
The Magistrate declined Amoako’s bail application, citing the seriousness of the offense and the potential risk of interference with investigations. The case has been adjourned to September 15, 2025, for further hearing.
The police are continuing their investigations, including efforts to apprehend Amoako’s accomplices and retrieve the firearm used in the video. The outcome of this case is being closely watched, given the growing concerns about illegal mining and security in the region.
