A former football administrator, Kojo Bonsu, has added his voice to calls by a section of Ghanaians rooting for the Black Stars Technical Director to take on the managerial role of the team following the exit of Otto Addo.

He says Chris Hughton has what it takes to handle the team better than the former coach.

Kojo Bonsu believes the appointment of Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars was laughable considering the pool of talents at his disposal which he failed to utilise effectively.

A section of Ghanaians have already called on the GFA to give Mr. Hughton the role after head coach Otto Addo resigned, following the Black Stars exit from the group stage of the World Cup.

Speaking Wednesday, December 7, 2022 on Akoma Sports with Sammy Acheampong, the former Mayor for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) said he was surprised Ghanaians did not oppose the appointment of Otto Addo.

“Ghanaians should have complained when the FA appointed Otto Addo ahead of Chris Hughton. To be honest, I still don’t get why they took such decision. We must start questioning the FA on how they appoint coaches,” he opined.

He continued that he has absolute confidence in the talent available and believes with the right technical brains, the team will be able to achieve success.

“We have numerous players that are very good and with a great coach, the team will go further. We should scout for a better coach and allow him to appoint his own assistant coaches,” he indicated.

Kojo Bonsu, however, bemoaned the hiring of cheap coaches who are later manipulated by the GFA.

He said “I’m in for either a local or expatriate. But also, a coach who is well committed to the team. And let’s pay him well. We like cheap labour and we need to avoid those stuff and allow the coach to make his own selection of players.”

When quizzed on his preference for the job, he was quick to say “I will personally go in for Chris Hughton ahead of the current coaches we have if only the man is willing to do the job.”
