Interim coach Prince Yaw Owusu clinched his first win in charge of Asante Kotoko with a 2-0 away victory over Young Apostles on Sunday, February 22.

It was the first game for the Porcupine Warriors after their painful 1-0 loss to archrivals Hearts of Oak in the Super Clash.

The visitors made their intentions clear very early in the game as Johnson Oppong Owusu broke the deadlock in the 6th minute.

With fans at the Wenchi Sports Stadium yet to recover from the goal, Samba O’Neil’s towering header came off an opponent resulting in an own goal.

This gave the Porcupine Warriors a 2-0 lead just 16 minutes into the game of Matchday 23.

Though their fans expected more after last week’s disappointing outcome against Hearts of Oak, Kotoko had to be content with the two first half goals as the match ended 2-0.

It was the first loss for Young Apostles in their backyard as they seek to get a good result in the next game in the relegation fight.

By the win, Asante Kotoko return to the Top 4, just behind their archrivals Hearts of Oak, who were held to a goalless draw at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium by Berekum Chelsea.

Kotoko’s next match will be against Vision FC at home while Young Apostles make the short trip to Berekum to face Berekum Chelsea in their next outing.
